Court to consider appeals over Yukos accounts attachment

The Moscow municipal court on July 27 will consider three appeals against the decision to attach accounts of the Yukos company in Swiss banks, lawyer Dmitri Kharitonov told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. He represents the interests of Leonid Nevzlin, a shareholder of the Menatep group.

The attorney noted that the Moscow court on Wednesday confirmed the legitimacy of the attachment of some companies' accounts in Swiss banks in connection with the Yukos case.

Thus, the court dismissed the appeal by attorneys against the ruling of Moscow's Basmanny court that gave its sanction in March to attach Swiss deposits of 20 Russian citizens, including Yukos co-owners Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Platon Lebedev, Mikhail Brudno, Leonid Nevzlin, Vladimir Dubov and Alexander Tenerko.

According to the General Prosecutor's Office, five billion dollars are in the accounts.

The question is not one of assets, shares or other securities, but personal deposits of individuals somehow or other involved in massive state fund embezzlement, sources in the prosecutor's office noted.

According to Kharitonov, attorneys filed several appeals, and consideration of complaints from legal entities and private individuals, on whose accounts attachment was imposed, is planned for July 27.
